Emirhan Yasdiman

Technical SEO Lead at Metro Markets

Google stopped ingesting the sitemaps of this travel aggregator site. At the bottom of the problem lay a complex web of hreflang and noindex tagging - a tricky technical issue that no agency would tackle. By running a manual test and subsequently rolling it out across the site, Emirhan shows how important it is to have an in-house SEO team.

Cross-Cache: When Pages “Jumped” Countries (and how I fixed it)

“…Obviously, hotels could be popular in some countries and get no attention in others. Our existing approach applied noindex tags to hotel pages in countries that had no conversions in the past year. To illustrate, if you were traveling from the UK to Turkey, you might only book a hotel in a major city like Istanbul or Ankara. Being outside of Turkey, the thousands of local hotels would be of no interest. That being the case, we didn’t want those smaller hotels indexed beyond the Turkish site. To manage this, we used a system that checked hotel records and added noindex tags to those that were not relevant to a certain country.”
